Nokia E61 Page

I use this device more than a year and happy with it. This is a real smart phone. There are minor problems like seldom reboots when few applications are running and short silence when MP3 file is played and you open another application.

Tips

When playing video in RealPlayer use joystick up/down to rewind.

To open local HTML file use Opera Mobile browser: in the Go To paste full path to the file.

Shortcuts:

• Turn on/off Bluetooth: left corner button+Ctrl
• Turn on IR: left corner button + Chr
• Disconnect packet connection: red key

Software

The default set is good but not enough. Here are applications I use frequently and I consider most valuable:

• ABBYY Lingvo 12 for Symbian must have. Needs improvement (e.g. copy to buffer)
• Google Maps for E61 - useful when you travel. Needs a lot of improvement however (e.g. cache visited map).
• Screenshot for Symbian OS - useful for dumping screens.
• jmIrc - IRC client (stopped working recently in T-Mobile NYC). Easy to modify and recompile from sources using Sun Java Wireless Toolkit.
• Reflect Theme from Psiloc: finally good theme with proper font size and contrast.
• DrYukka Y-Browser with plugins: allows more or less normal file management.
• Opera Mini: simple java browser, sometimes better recognizes cyrillic encoding than built-in one.
• QReader: best text file reader for Symbian, resembles Haali Reader for PockerPC.
• ^C2Doom: Doom port for Symbian OS, supports original WAD files, amazing!
• Python for S60: based on Python 2.2.2 but very useful Screenshot
• PuTTY for Symbian OS: SSH client for Symbian Screenshot
• cCalc (scientific calculator) Screenshot

Hardware

• Nokia AD-46 Audio Adapter is a must to listen music in regular headphones. Nice for watching films also. There are two drawbacks: long cords and relatively low volume especially in noisy areas like trains.
